Introduction

Hey kids,

The start of my third year comes swiftly on the horizon, and with a spare moment I have decided to get my act together and start work on a blog to describe the various things I get up to in Kyoto and beyond.

The plan is to fly out on the 9th September to Kansai International, and spend an academic year as a student of Japanese at Doshisha University in Kyoto, alongside a class of fellow foreign students.

Haven't looked much into this yet (I am lazy), but I would also like to get a bit of English language teaching done, put my CELTA skills to good use. I hear it's pretty easy to find such work, I hope they're right.

Preparations are complete for a comfortable arrival, except perhaps some more practice with the language wouldn't go amiss. This is what anime is good for.

Other preperations for the year at large include the purchase of a netbook (I have my eyes on a red Dell Mini 10) and to learn a few good rice dishes. Oh, and to reset my body clock closer to the time to minimise jet lag. It's going to be a fun few nights...

But for now life continues as normal. Anime, video games, occasional walks to reduce eye strain. I watched Sunshine for the first time the other day. That was good.

So if anyone happens to be in Kyoto or thereabouts between September 9th and August 20th-ish do make yourselves known (unless you are Mark or Kris, in which case don't bother). And do stay in touch, whoever you are.
